Welcome and happy reading!

Since, like anyone else, I receive tons of scam emails and snail mail letters, I decided to present here some of these. All of these (and many more which I just delete) are scams. This means, what the senders have in mind is to racket one of us. And according to what I've seen, they do succeed quite often.

If you have similar letters in your mailbox, either disregard or play with the person knowing that you can't give him (or her) any information about:

  1. Your bank account,
  2. Your address — or any valid address if that matter,
  3. Your family, and
  4. any other information that you judge private or even intimate.

Ha! I say "Your"... even if you don't like your neighbor at all, don't give his information either. The Internet leaves tracks (hackers in the US are being caught one after another!) and you would certainly be in even bigger trouble.

In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy reading these letters as I do myself once in a while. 8-)I do not always add comments with the letters since I usually don't have time to do so, but there would often be a lot of joke to tell!

There is another message I've got from someone on Facebook... That someone has a brand new account and a picture. That's it. He/she probably knows that the account will be erased quickly. I wonder whether they could legally check such messages since there are many flags (i.e. an email address, a large sum of money, 'investment' related...)

Otherwise, the content of the message was different from what I usually get by email. Here the person says that my name is on a list which means I'm owed $150k... We'll see how that's true.

This one is spam on Facebook. This happens quite a bit on MySpace, but not so much on Facebook. Well... Much less.

So... before you'd get a Connection request, but because most of those people were getting banned, they now changed their tactic. Instead, they send you a little post like the one below. What's funny is that they rarely look much more in your account than to know whether you're male. Maybe they verify your age too. But as you can see they send that to me even though I'm married. Funny part, one once talked to me in a chat session and when I asked "her" (yeah... see what I mean here? "she" may be anyone...) whether she looked at my profile, she said she did not care. Interesting because she would not have had to ask me whether I was married... It's clearly marked in there.

Now, if I'm correct, Facebook owners have had partying problems too... See the social network post I wrote on Snap! Free Website Hosting, Advanced Blog, Small Business Websites.

Ha! Ha! Do I remember Mr Coffy? Mais bien sûr!

You see, the boat just arrived in London (it says today which is cool because that way he can send the email any day and it still says today... I'd bet some people would not even check the send date to know when today was.)

And of course no one is wondering about that $1M box... 110kg of money would probably be a lot more than $1M actually. Even with larger notes.

JavaScript can run on any platform when the HTML generator does not first remove it from a message.

Yahoo! was not doing so at first. At some point, some people complained of having problems and at that time Yahoo! added filters to detect such things in emails. If there is a JavaScript in your email, then the email is ignored by Yahoo! I'm sure GMail, Hotmail, AOL and so on are now doing the same thing.

Got an email today that said Facebook changed my password. I suppose that's what happens when they detect that an account was tempered with. Actually, they probably just block the account and reset the password (i.e. you cannot log in with the same password anymore.)

The interesting thing is that it very looked like it came from Facebook. So the fake was really good at that level. It actually came from mail.recyclesoul.com which I guess is a religious website?

Why the email? It actually contains a virus in a document. The attached zip file has a file named Facebook_document which is a ...

There we go. Directly from the office of the senior secretary of the US Dept. of Treasury. They blocked my money these crazy people?!

Notice the phone number at the bottom. It's a 206 number which is in Washington.... State. Oops.

Otherwise, seen the nice table in the middle? They really want to get your info! 8-)

This one is a true Nigerian scam. Got to call a number in Nigeria. Although... there could be a call transfer too. But really, I don't think scammers thought of that one yet otherwise those numbers would be 800 numbers in the US! 8-)

Here we go! Today I get an email from Amazon telling me that I just ordered something. Thinking that you have thousands of orders everyday, it is not totally unlikely that someone who really just ordered something from Amazon is getting this scam email...

The email includes 3 images from Amazon. The amazon.com in the top-left corner had a link, but the Your Account | Help and Unsubscribe icon were not links.

All the links were going to the exact same place. The guy did not do too much work here! 8-)

Another one... the total cost is shown as $1.99. That I think gives it away. If you just

This one is really funny... According to this email, I'm a dead person and my money is to be sent to someone else. But Debby is kind enough to contact me first. You know... they do not want to send my money to some weirdo stranger!!!

Here we go. First of all, he's an ex-Liberia official. Even though he has a rather English name. Say it can happen. Then he followed a former president to another country. Hmmm... and out of that, he gets paid how much? $15M... Right. That was quite a job.
