Fun one.

So this guy installed some malware on my computer and he has tons of pics and videos that he had a really hard time to gather, as I could imagine (yes, read the email below!) and if I don't pay him $350 he's going to email that data to all my contacts.

I wonder how many people receiving such threat will fall for it. Especially because sending screenshots is not going to make it more believable that it is indeed my computer that he took the footage from. There are literally billions of people with similar computers?!

Not only that, many people receive emails with stuff like that in them already and I don't think they read them much anyway. :-)

Oh well... nice attempt I suppose.

I certainly hope that if you received such that you did not send the $$$. Note also that the guy says he will delete all the content once I paid the $350. Why wouldn't he then ask for $1,000? After all, nothing forces him to delete anything at all. Frankly?!

Any type of locking like that would be the same thing. One intelligent thing to do is have backups of your data if you're worried it could happen to you (and it certainly could). So have backups and that way you'll be happy when such a bad thing happens to you. Note that having a backup means copies of all your files on several different computers or on different mediums (i.e. an external USB drive, on the cloud, etc.)
