Okay... I hit a record last night (Fri 20, 2006 to Sat 21, 2006): 550 emails in about 14 hours (I already had 483 in about 8 hours!)

I'd say, wow! so many compagnies offering all of these wonderful products... But let's look a bit at the subject of these 550 emails... First of all, I do a "cat 550.txt | sort -u | wc" and I get 309. That means 241 emails are duplicates. Who would want to do that?! Total idiots? Certainly. Imagine that I send you 242 times the exact same email. How stupid would you think I am to do such a thing? And yet, if these people continue to send the same emails every day forever, that's certainly because they somehow make some money... Or do they? That is... there are the people selling their goods and the people selling the "incredible marketing to 11 million users in this and that country! We are cheap (well... better be!), try us, and we even offer servers to send your mail."

Small compagnies, after several years, will usually have around 50,000 people's email. They have a real product with real people who like these product and use them. And that marketing company has what?! 11 million?! And all they do is marketing?!?!?! Ho! Yeah! I forgot! Everyone wants to receive advertising and give away their email to marketing companies, just like that... 11 million of them here and 100 million there and so on! Right!

I'm probably not a master at marketing, but I can tell you for sure that this technique works. These people create new websites every other day and that costs US $7 to US $8 for the domain name (the rest they don't need to pay for). Thus, they either make at least 1 or 2 sales and re-use some of the money to pay for a new domain and go on; or they find idiots who think "wow! that's a great opportunity" and these idiots pay whatever they need to get the domain and such and never make a sale. These idiots lost their money, but someone makes a little profit anyway (such as the domain name resellers who don't care what people enter for their info which is the case of pretty much all the domain name resellers!)

Of course, adding a strong verification process would make a domain name expensive (such as US$250...) but it would cleanse these idiots for good! Or would it? Well... at least they could not just get new website domain names every other day! But of course, that process would be necessary in the entire world and it would complicate individuals getting their own domain name.

Now I have another good solution: force people to use Linux and never ever run MS-Windows again ever. 9-)
